Eary Pregnancy – Signs and Symptoms
It is not always easy to identify pregnancy symptoms, as different women experience different symptoms. There are however common signs that do occur…
* Bloated feeling
* Outbreaks on skin (facial area)
* The feeling that something “is not quite right”
* Headaches
* Dizziness… and missing a period.
To know for sure pregnancy tests are widely available or you could contact your doctor for confirmation.
First Stages of pregnancy
A lot of women suffer with nausea or morning sickness in the early stages of pregnancy and can find it difficult to get through the day. A good way to combat this is to eat little and often to keep energy levels up. Keep plain biscuits,small pieces of chocolate, fruit and water close to hand and try to eat as well as you can.
Some women find that their taste buds change slightly and smell can become more sensitive. Those afternoon teas or coffees that you once enjoyed can now make you feel queasy, try switching to fruit teas or fresh juice.
It is important to take it easy and listen to your body but if you are feeling sick try to distract yourself and shift your attention to something else because if you focus on the feeling of being sick quite often you are! If you are feeling nauseous try sipping lemonade or suck on a small sweet and you will get through it.
This stage will pass, usually at around twelve weeks but all pregnancies are different so time scales can vary.
Top tips for early stages of pregnancy:
* Make an appointment with your midwife for your “booking appointment”
* Take folic acid as soon as you can
* Multivitamins (i.e. Pregnacare)
* Listen to your body
* Take it easy
At twelve weeks you will be due for your first scan and nothing can prepare you for the enormity of this event. It is mind-blowing! You will most likely have a mix of emotions as you may be excited to see your baby but nervous at the same time and worried, hoping that all will be OK and well.
Being pregnant is an amazing time and it is definitely worth it in the end. You will have so much to think about and a lot of planning to do for the oncoming event of your new arrival. Your mind will be busy thinking of baby names, baby clothes and nursery themes/colours etc. Enjoy every moment and cherish the time… Happy pregnancy!
